The Miracle of God: To Not Gain the Whole World and Lose Your Soul

Today on an episode of Touched By an Angel I was reminded about this idea of trying to gain the world, but losing my soul in the process as the young lawyer was put in this position with his client against his own mother and others. It is true that we become so busy and consumed by this material world we live in of gaining possessions, seeking power and control, mistreating others to feel better about yourself, we even kiss up or become yes people just to move up the ladder of success even if we have to compromise our very own principles in life.  Sometimes we get involved in drugs, alcohol, smoking, gambling, etc. just to be part of the in-crowd or to be accepted by people who we think are important or give us attention.  People today sometimes sell their souls to the devil in order to "gain the world." We often associate with people who are not good role models who steal, swear, talk bad about others, live with rage and hate, devoid of God, only are friends with you for benefits, the list can go on and on. Sometimes God and spirituality is not convenient for people and it is easier to become consumed by this world we live in, than God. One is often better off being alone in prayer with God instead of associating with people who are not good souls or have not found themselves yet. Many people often never want to know or accept the truth or word of God, and dismiss people who try to help them. We all need to love our neighbors as ourselves, but also realize that our own friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and others may forsake us or abandon us due to our alliance with God.  You can only do your best to serve others and be disciples for God, sometimes you have to learn that when others abandon you or can't get what they want from you and move on, then it is their loss, like Jesus even said, when you are not welcomed or heard by others, move on to the next town and shake the sand off your feet. Life is too short to try to win others over or gain all of this world. We have an eternity with God to look forward to and no one should lose their soul for the people and materials things of this world.  We are brought into this world with a soul and we should want to leave this world with our soul. This is a miracle from God when one can live by this virtue here on Earth. God bless you and I hope you enjoy the song and reflection.
