Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! One of America's Best Heroes and Great Men-A True Patriot and American!

“Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also internal violence of Spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you refuse to hate him.”
-MLK

Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968 according to Wikipedia. He was:

Born: January 15, 1929, Atlanta, GA

Assassinated: April 4, 1968, Memphis, TN

Famous speech: I Have a Dream

Children: Martin Luther King III, Yolanda King, Dexter King, Bernice King

I have to say that I think Martin Luther King Jr. is one of my most respected and beloved fellow Americans of all times! I love what he stood for and always standing up for what was right, but in a non-violent way. He appalled any violence and  hate. He wanted to always peacefully protest his cause for equal and civil rights for all human beings. Like Jesus Christ, he wanted it done with love, peace, and non-violence. I love the quote, “I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” I agree with him so much! It is all about character! So many today, especially in politics, leadership, management, and administration have no character or principles. Professionalism and ethics do not seem to exist anymore. There really is very little leadership today, it is all so mediocre and mediocrity is the norm in our society. So much injustice! I have to ask, where is the character in people today especially our so called leaders? Where is the Spirit of God in each of us? Selfishness, greed, corruption, fraud, mediocrity all seem to have taken over as the norm and so few have any content of character anymore. It is not seen in our government at all, none of our elected, look at our debt and state of affairs today. MLK knew all of this back then. He was a man of God, he really tried to live just like Jesus did while on Earth, likely a person so close to the way Jesus lived when He was here. I must admit MLK is my hero, he is the American that I most respect and have great admiration for his character, his love for God, and his love for our country. MLK was an American icon, a saint, and a hero, if we all could only be half the man he is, maybe this world could be a better place. Thank you MLK for your love and real leadership!

It is all about peaceful protests for what is right in a democracy! Today we do not seem to even have a democracy anymore. Our country and world need a lot of prayers. We need to resist hate. We need good people like MLK to help us become better and greater, God, Jesus, non-violence, and peaceful protests are the only way, be people of character, people of good will, people of honor, this is what we need to teach and stand up for!

I thought this quote by MLK was interesting as an educator:

“If we are not careful, our colleges will produce a group of close-minded, unscientific, illogical propagandists, consumed with immoral acts. Be careful, 'brethren!' Be careful, teachers!”

—“The Purpose of Education” from Morehouse College student newspaper, The Maroon Tiger, 1947
