To start out the new year, we watched a movie about the Bible, God, and the truth! In the movie The Secret Scripture which is an Irish film with the film star Vanessa Redgrave from 2016/2017 based on a book with the same title from 2008 by Sebastian Barry. The film alternates between the early years of World War II and the end of the 20th century. The main character, Rose McNulty (Vanessa Redgrave) has been a patient in the Sligo Regional Mental Hospital for 50 years since being accused of murdering her baby in 1942, but she never did. A priest covers all up, she married Michael McNulty and then he was murdered, she was pregnant with his baby, the priest loved or was obsessed with her and covered it all up. The movie is filled with lies and a priest that did much evil. It was sad to see all the lies of a priest. All she did was love, love Michael, her husband, she was stripped of her life and baby. She has a secret scripture though, The Book of Rose, which she writes in her Bible, the whole real story. She says the only way she can escape the mental hospital is if her son can come and claim her. Her son figures it all out with the nurse, the story she wrote in the Bible, the Book of Rose. The truth comes out. He sees the truth. The truth was always there in front of them, it was of love, which was covered up by lies, jealousy, and envy by a priest, who could not have her. Her real son finds her and takes her home. Truth is truth, denying the truth doesn't change it as can be seen in the movie. So is true in life! Our world is filled with lies, there is so much jealousy, envy, corruption, fraud, many wicked people, but we need to pray to God that the truth comes out, we need to look for the love. The love of Christ brings out the truth. God always speaks about truth. See God, see love, see truth!
