Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven!
Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
~Proverbs 23:5
Today we see so many people who think that gold, silver, houses, land, money, luxury cars, material things, and investments are the real treasures in this Earth School life journey. So many live without God today and think that living for things of this world are what make them, or define them. But they don't. We need God! We need to follow Jesus, to reflect and imitate Him, that is what we were made for and what we should focus on as we go about this life journey.
The Mornings With God App today said, "Many people think that gold, silver, houses, land, and investments are the real treasures. So, they work hard to gain these things, gather them up, and call themselves wealthy. They live in fine houses and consider themselves rich. But one day, their so-called riches take wings and fly away like eagles toward heaven. Or perhaps they keep their wealth and die with it, having a grand funeral, only to find that they can’t take a penny of it with them. “How much did he leave?” someone asked about a rich man who had died. “He left it all,” was the answer. If only people knew that there are treasures far more valuable than money—treasures that never fly away—they would pursue those instead. We can only store up treasure in heaven by using what we have for God’s purposes."
It is all about God's purpose in our lives! It is not ours! We often forget, we can be truly happy, when we do the will of God. When we follow His son Jesus, our Emmanuel, our God with us, He is our example, our model of who to follow and how to live. It is not our accumulation of material good, gold, silver, money, and material goods, none of that matters to God. Jesus told the rich man that in order to get into Heaven he needed to give all of his wealth away and follow Jesus, it was hard for Him. We are called to follow His Commandments, but to also live humble and meek lives serving others, not trying to accumulate wealth and riches. Our goal is to fly into Heaven and we can only do that when we follow Jesus and what He said. When we reflect and imitate Him!
