Let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him!

Concerning times and seasons, brothers and sisters,

you have no need for anything to be written to you.

For you yourselves know very well

that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night.

When people are saying, "Peace and security,"

then sudden disaster comes upon them,

like labor pains upon a pregnant woman,

and they will not escape.

But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness,

for that day to overtake you like a thief.

For all of you are children of the light

and children of the day.

We are not of the night or of darkness.

Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do,

but let us stay alert and sober.

What a reminder, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober. For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him! Yes, let us stay sober, be alert. We see so many today drunk, high, focused on sex, gambling, greed, corruption, fraud, working to gain money and power and things of this world. We are called to follow Jesus! To be ready for His return, to be alert and sober. I too think it is sad. I even see it in family members, being high or abusing alcohol, not living for God or doing what is holy and upright. I always wonder, why can't people just be high on Jesus! Why isn't this enough? Why do so many have to use and abuse drugs, smoke, drink, gamble, abuse sex, have all these addictions? So many people are not living with the fear of God, they do not think God is all powerful, and that He knows and controls all, we need to hold Him on high, be ready, stop sinning, be alert, not be sleeping or living in the dark, but in the light, be sober! We need to be ready, stop abusing pot and alcohol, stop abusing sex and being greedy, corrupt and gambling, and focus on Jesus, nothing of this world matters like following Jesus and what He offers, life eternal in Heaven with Him!  Got hope?
