Pride and Ego are the destructive emotions of the soul!
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
– Proverbs 16:18
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
– Proverbs 11:2
For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
– Luke 14:11
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
– Philippians 2:3
Pride and ego are a real problem today in our society, it really is the destructive emotion of our souls! Just not healthy. We see it a lot today. By leaders. By elected, By people who think they know more, like the elitists and liberal left pushing all their hate, haughtiness, and violence if you do not agree with them. Even we see it in religions, some who think they are superior. Even in countries, I saw a show today, it made the Latino group look like they are the most important group to ever exist. We as humans sure allow ourselves to let our ego and pride go to our head. We see it today in our society by many of the immigrant groups. They go around with their flags from their countries, pushing how great they are, but they left and abandoned their countries to come here. But do not want to assimilate and can be so prideful. Pride is a dangerous emotion. It also leads to greed, envy, jealousy, and insecurities. Just not healthy for a society. I worked in higher education at a university for almost 30 years, I saw it all with some professors thinking they are the cats meow, as if they are the only ones who are important, they knock others to elevate themselves, they become envious, jealous, and show so much insecurity all from their ego and pride. Some people say that ego stands for edging God out! When we elevate ourselves and allow ego and pride to take over, it only really brings us down!
According to Bible Repository, they said that, "Pride is often seen as the root of many problems in our lives. We may think of pride as a sign of strength and confidence, but scripture reveals its darker side. As believers, we are called to remain humble, recognizing that it is God who gives us strength and wisdom. When we allow pride to seep into our hearts, we risk separating ourselves from the love and guidance of our Creator. By acknowledging our need for God, we can walk the path of humility and service instead of getting lost in our own self-importance." Found at: https://biblerepository.com/verses-about-pride-in-the-bible/ They also said, "Pride can bring unforeseen consequences that can lead us down the wrong path. When we base our worth on our accomplishments or status, we risk alienating ourselves from others and from God. It is vital that we reflect on the effects pride can have on our relationships and spiritual life. Scripture warns us that pride precedes destruction and that we should be cautious of our inflated views of ourselves. Recognizing the potential dangers of pride empowers us to seek humility and rely on God rather than our own understanding."
As humans we need to be careful about ego and pride. As we walk through this Earth School journey, we often encounter moments that test our humility, that is for sure. Isn't it easy, at times, to allow our pride to inflate our ego and push us above others? We need to be careful about this. It really only brings us down when we do. Each day we are exposed to a lot of ego and pride on TV, in the news, by sports players, actors, famous people, newscasters, etc. We also see a lot of bias and hate spewed. Today we see a lot of evil rhetoric even promoting violence by the liberal left who do not want any law and order in our country. It is sad to see. I know I have experienced my share of abuse by others, all due to their insecurities. People were jealous, envious, and insecure when I won many teaching awards, published 4-7 papers a years, and always received all excellent annual evaluations. It is real, and hard to deal with if you are on the end of all the evil acts directed toward you. One must rise above the hate and pride. Be humble, turn it all over to God, remain faithful, do not let anything go to your head, and let it roll off your shoulders. That is all you can do, follow the advice from the Bible, some verses are reflected above in dealing with such matters. Yes, pride and ego are the destructive emotions of the soul! They do not bring miracles or love, they hurt the prideful who let ego become their worst enemies!
