All discrimination and racism is wrong and should not be allowed to occur in this world! I saw and read this news and paper today. I agree a lot with the author and professor. I was a professor for almost 30 years and the last 10 years of my professorship, I saw a lot of the same things he spoke about. I felt so discriminated against for being an American born white male. We always had to settle for being knocked down, as if we were less, although I published more than most, always received excellent annual evaluations, won teaching awards, and was a top notch professor. I noticed a lot of jealousy, envy, and insecurity directed toward me and my success. The past several years with all the push for DEI, CRT, and this woke ideology the liberal left pushes today, it was very hateful toward American born, especially white males. We were made to be less valued. A lot came from the foreign hires from other countries who had many insecurities, and manifested this discrimination against us. They did not like that students did not like their accents, their lack of English proficiency, their cultural morays, the push for multiculturalism, but it turned into hate toward the white American born, and especially males. James Hankins in his paper, Why I’m Leaving Harvard said, "When late liberal pedagogy replaced Western civilization courses with global history, serious harm was done to the socialization of young Americans. When you don’t teach the young what civilization is, it turns out, people become uncivilized." It seems like that is true. We saw a lot of hate, cancel culture, and woke ideology, and if you did not comply or join the bandwagon of hate and woke ideology, you were cancelled. I was also blessed with an early retirement incentive, mine was a short offer, and I was offered in May of 2024 and got done in December of 2024 from my university. It was all a blessing. I had a blessed career. I published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, presented at hundreds of conferences, travelled the world, won many teaching awards, did so much service, created a math journal, and always had excellent annual evaluations in my entire career. I was an educator for 38 years, teaching middle school and high school math, then at the university working on preparing teachers to teach math. When I first started teaching at my university, I was treated like a king. They bought me all the teaching tools/manipulatives I needed to teach with. They gave me a nice classroom and storage, they treated me so well, then around 2018 a lot of changes came, they took away my classroom and storage. Then Covid hit, all was online, they even took away my office phone without my permission. While the last few years were frustrating to deal with, I in spite of all keep teaching, writing, and publishing so much, I published four to seven papers a year until I retired. I loved my job and my career. I loved my students and research agenda. I was so blessed. But I too saw and experienced the same things that James Hankins noted, it is real, it is a problem, and it is sad that so many colleges and universities today are discriminating against the American born professor, most is due to the foreign hire issue at universities today and all the immigration issues our country faces, illegal or otherwise. I read an article from almost 30 years ago talking about how the changes in universities in the USA to hire more foreign hires created many issues in the country. I recently read that the Governor of Florida wants universities to hire more American born professors, not allowing visa to hire from outside the USA. I know that the problem is real, I experienced the discrimination, hate, and cancel culture, I believe it is all insecurities on their part, we have seen a lot of brainwashing of this woke ideology, indoctrination as many call it, and this is where all the hate and lack of understanding come from. I agree with Hankins that, When late liberal pedagogy replaced Western civilization courses with global history, serious harm was done to the socialization of young Americans. When you don’t teach the young what civilization is, it turns out, people become uncivilized." I am blessed to be out of academic now. To be retired. I had a blessed career. Wonderful students. Never one complaint about me all my years teaching or from a student. I loved teaching and writing, I had great success. I never joined any hate club. I was cancelled the last few years of my tenure by colleagues too because I would not join the union, and many were trying to force me to, but I knew I would be retiring soon. Cancel culture is real. Discrimination is real. And yes, I agree there is anti-white racism. I felt it for sure. It is all behind me now. I pray for all, but did have a blessed career. As I said above, all discrimination and racism is wrong and should not be allowed to occur in this world! I am blessed now to be retired!
