Oh, empty us of self, the world, and sin!
Oh, empty us of self, the world, and sin,
And then in all Thy fulness enter in;
Take full possession, Lord, and let each thought
Into obedience unto Thee be brought;
Thine is the power, and Thine the will, that we
Be wholly sanctified, O Lord, to Thee.
—C. E. J.
Today many people do not want you to talk about sin, sin in general, their sin, or the ills of society which mostly are due to all of our sins. Nobody wants judgement and so many today have so many excuses for all the sin in the world. As if we are all supposed to accept it all, without changes. The Bible is very clear that all lawlessness is sin. Today we see a lot of lawlessness. No one wants law and order today. They think it is just fine to kill babies with abortion. Or to enter another country illegally. Or to allow a narco leader to stay in office to pour drugs into another country to kill so many people. We make a lot of excuses for sin today. This poem above talks about that, how we need to empty ourselves of self, the world, and sin. We need to replace it all with Jesus. To follow Him! We need to live in Spirit, following, reflecting, forgiving, imitating, and loving like Him! We need to surrender to God, abandon ourselves to Jesus, to let Him guide and lead us, to accept His will be done in our lives, doing His will, imitating His son Jesus, following His model, loving like Him! We need to say no to sin, this world, and self, and yes to Jesus!
