Volunteering for the Lord!

Every job becomes sacred when God is the focus of our efforts.

~Martin Luther

I am currently volunteering for the Lord! I love it! Writing my blogs, speaking the word of God, loving all my fellow humans, trying to always be prayerful, grateful, positive, loving, and joyful in the Lord! We are called to serve and to love. To be joyful, positive, and loving! I have been blessed for so many years of my life, I did so much volunteer work in my life, a lot as part of my service work for my job, but much way beyond that. I loved it all!

I used to help the shut-ins at my church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake Worth, Florida, there were two different older widowed ladies, Virginia and Phoebe that I served and took care of.  I worked with Virginia for a few years until she passed, then I was assigned Phoebe who lasted for many years. I even become friends with Virginia's sister Delores, from church and would do things with her too. Both were different, they were shut ins, didn't drive anymore, couldn't get around much. I would visit them regularly, daily or every few days. I brought them food, did shopping for them, took them on rides and appointments, helped them at home, listened, showed love and tried to be a friend to an old alone person. They were both Catholic and we related, it was a blessing to work with both of them, know their families, and help. I know they loved me and appreciated my regular help, they could always count on me, both have since passed, but I did love them, and I was blessed by God to work with them, know them, and help them, it was so rewarding and a blessing.

I also did service work, volunteering at local schools in my areas. I would go to the school weekly, teach classes, work with students, do lessons for teachers, write articles with the teachers and a principal, organize family math nights, just so much. I loved working with the teachers and students, sharing my expertise in teaching math. It was so rewarding. I even worked with one school and class in an after school program of community club where we want out and walked picking up garbage in our neighborhood, planted plants, recycled, and did so much. It is rewarding working with schools, teachers, and young people, I loved all my volunteer work in the schools over the 30 years of so of teaching.

One other big aspect of my volunteer work I did for about 25 years was working at the Senior Center in Palm Beach County. I worked first at the Cuban site near Roseland in West Palm Beach, I worked there for many years, feeding the seniors who lived here, visiting with them, playing games, doing service work, handing out food and care packages, it was very rewarding. They I switched and worked at the bigger center on Lake Worth Road where I worked for many years. I used to go each Friday, I go there about 11am, I would visit with all the seniors, many spoke Spanish, which I do too, so talked to them, but other spoke English. I would visit all or do some odd job, then we would roll our the food carts and start bringing the food out to each table. I loved doing this to visit with and talk to each person. I tried to go around and speak to each person when I was there, showing interest and care. I loved it. The people were all so nice, many lonely, many became friends, even one I found out lived just a few houses up from my house, Lessy. She was such a sweetheart. I had so many friends there. I loved serving the seniors and visiting with them, giving them love, which they did in return. I felt used a few times when employees tried to make me do their work, since I was there to serve the seniors, not do the job of an employees, some could be so abusive, but mostly, I had wonderful experiences. I loved working here. Since I moved to Vero Beach in 2021, I stopped working here. I even won a nice plaque award for my volunteer work here at the Senior Center. What a nice blessing! I did it all with love!

When I lived and worked in Lake Worth I used to be on Adhoc committees, my neighborhood association, even on the board and the board of a few things as service work. I did neighborhood clean ups, crime watches, meetings, helped with city and town events, like the art shows, Street Painting, so many events and activities. I loved it. It was all service and volunteer work. When we moved to Vero Beach and now live in the country, I have gotten out of the habit of doing so much volunteer and service work since being retired. It is rewarding, but sometimes I felt the employees used and abuse people too to do their work. However, volunteer work and service for others is important and rewarding, I have done so much. Now I focus a little more on my blog and writing and my discipleship for Christ. I try to write to people who have become full of hate, negativity, and living in misery, being kind to them, showing love and interest, although some seem like they will never change, we need to try to be like Jesus, like I tried to be with my shut-ins, the schools and students, the seniors, all my work, it really is all done for the glory of God more than anything! I have had a blessed life of service. I still try to serve my family, friends, and loved one and the world, trying to be like Jesus the best I can, although some people can be so ugly and full of hate, negativity, and living in misery, you just have to know there will always be people like this anyway. St. Mother Teresa said that we should still try to show love to all anyway!

My award, I did it all with love!
