The crosses which we make for ourselves by a restless anxiety as to the future, are not crosses which come from God. We show want of faith in Him by our false wisdom, wishing to forestall His arrangements, and struggling to supplement His Providence by our own providence!
The crosses which we make for ourselves by a restless anxiety as to the future, are not crosses which come from God. We show want of faith in Him by our false wisdom, wishing to forestall His arrangements, and struggling to supplement His Providence by our own providence. The future is not yet ours; perhaps it never will be. If it comes, it may come wholly different from what we have foreseen. Let us shut our eyes, then, to that which God hides from us, and keeps in reserve in the treasures of His deep counsels. Let us worship without seeing; let us be silent; let us abide in peace.
—François de Salignac de la Mothe-Fénelon
It is all about God's will be done in our lives! We as humans create our own anxieties and frustrations for ourselves because we try to do all with our will, not God's. We are God's tenants on this Earth. We are beholding to Him! He holds the cards, not us. But we are always second guessing Him. Always trying to think we know best. I know I saw this in higher education as a professor, so many think they know best, with their Ph.D.'s and all their titles and egos, they become elitists, as if they know more than God as to what is best for us. I like that François Fénelon, the French archbishop, theologian, and writer always has so many wise words of advice for us as humans. Here it is clear, we need to turn it all over to God, accept His will be done in our lives, when we do, we will be much happier. I think along with this when we follow Jesus as our example, try to reflect, forgive, imitate, and love like Him too, we will have the peace and love of God that He wants us to feel during this Earth School journey He is giving us. He put us here, we need to do His will. Like the mass reading spoke about today too, we are called produce good fruit, to live by the fruits of the Holy Spirit, loving all, being kind, gentle, etc. Yes, let us shut our eyes, then, to that which God hides from us, and keeps in reserve in the treasures of His deep counsels. Let us worship without seeing; let us be silent; let us abide in peace! We need to remember that there is never peace in our lives without God!
