Jesus did not come to call the righteous but sinners!
As Jesus passed by,
he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post.
He said to him, ""Follow me.""
And he got up and followed him.
While he was at table in his house,
many tax collectors and sinners came
and sat with Jesus and his disciples.
The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples,
""Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?""
He heard this and said,
""Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.
Go and learn the meaning of the words,
I desire mercy, not sacrifice.
I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.""
~Matthew 9:9-13
Jesus did not come to call the righteous but sinners! He said it here Himself in this Bible verse. He preferred to be with sinners, to help them, guide them, to bring them to a right way to life here. The priests and Pharisees did not like that about Him. They do not like it now either. Even today priests are like this, they will have nothing to do with gay people often, since many are gay themselves and they do not want to be associated with them, it is ironic, but true, I know that me and my spouse have experienced this from priests. This Bible verse is great, it really shows that Jesus wants us to be like Him, and surround ourselves with sinners too, and help to bring them to Him. While I may feel I am not a sinners, we all really are, and I know that, none of us are perfect, but we should always try not to act above others like the priests and clergy do often times. We need to love others, to forgive them, to show mercy, compassion, and grace, to love, to be around them and show them to Christ by being about love like Jesus did. That is all we can do and what we should do, not feel embarrassed for being around sinners, but instead bring them to Jesus and get closer to Him ourselves! That is what God wants for us! to love all, forgive all, and not to judge or hate. It is really all about following Jesus!
